Listen ... just listen

Ok, I'm as guilty as the next person when singing hymns or praise & worship music ... guilty of just singing. I have really tried to make an effort to listen, really listen and sing the words from my heart. Next time you're singing, listen to WHAT you are singing. Can you imagine how the people felt when they penned the lyrics? It doesn't matter if it is traditional or contemporary ... the writers of these songs wrote about their deep personal experiences with God.

Next time your sing "Victory in Jesus" ... listen ... really listen. Listen to the words of "It is Well' (my personal favorite) ... listen to "Amazing Grace"... "Great is Thy Faithfulness!" Contemporary listeners ... what about "Empty Me" by Chris Sligh ... "God of Wonders" by Third Day ... "Praise You In the Storm" by Casting Crowns? I could go on and on. There is so much power in the lyrics of these songs.

If you are a performer ... this especially is true for you. Whether you sing in the choir, in a band, sing specials ... even if you are a musician, you are singing/playing to and for God. That's serious!

Let's try not to be haphazard with our music ... it's for God, but you will get the blessing if you know and feel what you are singing. Try it ... you'll like it!

For your enjoyment ...

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
In 1757, Robert Robinson penned the words to the famous hymn, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. This moving video illustration follows Robinson's struggle in finding the joy he once had when he wrote the hymn. Use this modern interpretation set to the hymn sung by Sufjan Stevens, to teach on faith and perseverance.

I Will Praise You in the Storm
